Art is important: A reflection

Almond Blossoms by Vincent Van Gogh (1890)

Art is a facet of our lives that would be helpful for us to understand. Because like Religion, Philosophy, History or Science, it also brings us lessons that we can use to improve our lives. Lessons that touch upon a deep part of our natures: our psychology, our emotions, and our spirit, uplifting them and sometimes, even healing them, paving a way towards our self-realization.

Art's abstract nature should not be an obstruction to our ability to derive insights from it. In whatever medium, we must realize that art's essence remains unchanged.

Art's goal is to serve as a mirror, to be a separate plane, a canvas of reality so to speak, where we can have the freedom to discover the heights and depths of human experience. Art has the power to communicate with us truths that are beyond the mundane. It brings us closer to life's transcendent values like creativity, beauty, freedom and understanding.

All we need to do is to listen, to feel, to look, because art, always, has something to impart.

Art also reflects us vignettes of ourselves so that we can remove the stains that distorts the truth of our being. So then, we can adjust ourselves and change the reflection to be one that is pure and humane. It makes us see the depth of our present reality, so that we will live with inspiration and hope.

Such is art's importance. So, it should not be something that is foreign to us nor it is something that we should take for granted. Instead, we must relate to it consciously, as artists, observers, and fellow human beings, that are brimming with potential for creativity, love, and understanding.
